Euflorium – The Eufloria Community

Eufloria has always had a cult following and active community. The original game was frequently modded, and some people have even tried modding the iOS version.

This week we’ve completely revamped the forum, upgraded the software, and added discussion boards for other titles the various Eufloria crew are working on. Take a look, visit Euflorium.

Eufloria Crash Fix and Update

Eufloria 1.01 is on the App Store. Fixes:

  • L8 and L18 difficulty addressed
  • Relaxed mode was too slow on some levels making them difficult; now fixed

Note that this fix resets the App Store reviews so please can you re-review the game if you’re reading this and would like to support us.

For any of you having problems with Eufloria crashing on iPad 1, it’s related to iOS kicking out the app due to memory constraints. In particular, iOS 5 notifications can cause crashes if your iPad’s memory has become fragmented or lost somehow.

To fix:

  • Reset iPad – This has worked for everyone who has reported an issue and lasts multiple runs
  • Kill Other Apps – In general, try and kill other apps before running Euforia

We know a few of you have requested in-level saves but this helps mitigate problems caused by that. We will be looking at implementing an in-level save but it’s technically problematic which is why it isn’t in already. I can’t promise this will be implemented, only that we’ll do our best!

The Eufloria HD – DAILY GIVEAWAY – Part 3

What’s It All About Then!?
Eufloria is an incredibly accessible strategy and exploration game; Explore and conquer asteroids in space with huge colonies of flowers. Easy.

Yet, that does not tell you much about the game at all really, beyond the superficial. Eufloria and its inspirations are not that easy to explain in depth. Abstract terraforming? Ambient gameplay? Floral colonies? Autonomous self replicating automata?? WHAT THE DICKENS??

So in light of that, when we were asked to give a presentation as participants in the Tokyo Game Show, Sense of Wonder Night “, we felt somewhat challenged (in a delightful way). We knew of the event already, as it shines a light on some of the most interesting and progressive games out there, so we were honoured to participate. We only had ten minutes to do the entire presentation though, including time for questions and Japanese translation. WHICH IS TOUGH.

Well, we did our best, it went quite well, but we still only managed to scratch the service. Still, it is the only detailed video out there. :-)  ANECDOTE: That quacking sound on the video? That was made by 300 people in the audience shaking their “Piko Piko” stick every time they felt a sense of wonder. (Piko Piko quacks loudly when shaken)
It was rather disarming.


Power To Da Point!
Too bad the picture quality is so poor right? Luckily we still have have the source files, which is part of today’s Daily Giveaway: The full power-point presentation and the written script we had to give to the Japanese translator. It may be of use to some of you out there.


The Ramblings of a Madman
We decided to enter some competition for mobile games a while ago, and in order to qualify we had to record a video explaining the game, to the judges. The file had to be insanely small however, and should not be a “marketing video” . This resulted in a rambling Low Rez chat under dire lighting conditions, but is kind of fun as well in its lack of pretension. Have a peek below to find the download link. (We never got nominated)

As I said before, these presentation still only cover some of the game’s influences and mechanics, and frankly, we would have to talk for hours to go into all the big and little details that went into making the game. (I would not mind actually, I LOVE talking about the game)

So far we only made it available to the press, but that seems like a missed opportunity, so we decided to add that to today’s giveaway as well. One of the key ingredients of Eufloria is its wonderful soundtrack. Our friend and genius composer Brian Grainger, working under his moniker “Milieu” has created an aural experience that is so intertwined with the game that we recently received an audio award for it.

Give The Gift of Music
To celebrate the audio quality of Eufloria we decided to make today’s giveaway about this wonderful music. Brian gave us permission to give away one of his tracks, and we picked one of the new ones he has created especially for the iPad release!
So, here is the WORLD PREMIERE of one of the tracks of the Eufloria HD OST, available as a FREE DOWNLOAD. (Too many caps?)

Personally I think this is a wonderful track. It brings to mind shades of early Autechre, but it remains a Milieu and Eufloria track through and through.


Loop De Loop!
There is more however. We used one of his menu loops to accompany the Eufloria presence on the PS3 menu bar, and received so much positive email about it that we decided to give that away too. (We recorded it looping for a few minutes and also provided a seperate wav with the loop region defined within the file)

Time to give things away! (No seriously…)
To celebrate the upcoming release of Eufloria HD on the AppStore we decided to start giving away little Eufloria related tokens of appreciation. We have had so much feedback and help and wonderful emails and mods and general good stuff that it would be fun to reciprocate in some way.

So, until the game launches, we are doing a DAILY GIVEAWAY, starting today.

Back in 2009 we took Eufloria to the Independent Games Festival, because we were nominated for two major awards (Grand Prize and the Innnovation award). WE created 100 unique mini-cards for that occasion, showing off the artwork and vibe of the game, and had them printed up as tiny promotional cards by Moo. Ready to Launch!

Well almost. In February 2012 that is.
We are nearly done creating an iPad release of Eufloria that is as good as we can make it. Tunatech and Team Eufloria are applying some final polish, a few more tweaks, a nip here, a tuck there… Either way, the iPad release is imminent. Imminent enough to release our official trailer for it!

Lovely people of the press. I feel I need to stress again that we are just a tiny indie team (Alex and I are on core development, and Brian on music). This port has been co-created with another indie team, Tunatech.

(People often forget that we are not some big company or corporation.)

We focus on game quality, and since we spend so much time on development, and since we don’t have PR departments, marketing professionals, or other “staff” working for us it is a real challenge to get word out about our games. We therefore want to strongly encourage anybody in the press who finds our game interesting, either for previewing/reviewing/or writing directly about the game and its development, to please get in touch. :-)

This is going to be a pretty major release. We have added new music, new content, new features, new interface… (NO VIRTUAL JOYSTICK but instead; a properly designed lovely touch-UI).

We will release the game fully functional; no hidden core features require in-app purchases to obtain. If we do add purchases later on it will be content devised after the game has shipped. Actual extra content. :-)

The initial release and update will be by far the most comprehensive and enjoyable release of Eufloria to date. And the price will be pretty darn reasonable. (I am not biased! Honestly!)

There is also additional content planned or lined up for the first update, including a new Ambient Mode, that is more about nurturing and growing, relaxing and playing with the new terraforming mechanic. (Yes, you can terraform stuff)

Anyway, I don’t want to give away too much, but hope that many of you will be happy to try the game once it is out and explore its content. If you do let us know what you think?
